HISTORY

The St. Joseph Hospital in Dindigul was started in 1957 and the Our Lady School of Nursing in 1964.  The Institution is under the direction and management of the Society of the Immaculate  Heart of Mary generally known as the ICM sisters. This is an International congregation.              With its specific Charism of a Double Passion: namely passion for God and compassionate love for the poor. Emerging from this double passion, the ICM sisters are engaged in multiple services such as Educational, Medical, Rural, Social, Technical, Handicapped & Pastoral All these services are oriented towards the uplift and empowerment of those who are pushed to the periphery of the society, such as the Dalit, Women, Children, and the Rural Poorer. Creating a society that is just and human wherein freedom, fellowship and justice are experienced by every human being is the sole objective of the various ministries of the ICM Sisters.

 AIMS

1. To facilitate ongoing process of Nursing Education in the true Christian Spirit.. 

2. To inculcate in the hearts and minds of the students human values such as genuine love, serviceability compassionate care and also professional skills so that the young women are empowered to become the dedicated servants of the health care of the human society.. 

3. To instill in the students the professional nursing skills through a wholistic process of formation by which the students are transformed into mature, responsible and integrated women and citizens of our nation.

VISION

              “ Highest   Quality and Advanced   Health  Care  Education ,  in  view  of   the    Scientific  and Technologic advancement in today’s Global context towards   Wholistic  Health Care System.”

 

MISSION

Formation of young female Nurses through a continuing educative process that inculcates both human values and higher nursing professional skills.  This process includes training them to become efficient service providers to the society, and to be available to serve the sick all over the world, facing today’s challenges with professionalism.

 

PURPOSES

  1. To help the student nurse to grow along with scientific progress made in nursing.
  2. To educate the student in the prevention of disease, promotion of health, restoration of wellbeing and rehabilitation.
  3. To train the student to provide the best care for the chronically ill patients.
  4. To help the local community in the care of sick and needy.
  5. To provide patient oriented and professionally efficient care.

    PHILOSOPHY

We, the ICM Sisters believe, that Higher Quality Nursing Education is to be imparted on sound Scientific Principles to enable the female students to become confident members of the Health Care Team Today.

We respect the needs, religious beliefs and practices of the community and train our students to serve them professionally and extensively.

We promote overall development of the female nurses, in the field of  Educational, Moral, Cultural, Psychological, Physical, Spiritual and Ethical and prepare them to become skilled and competent Nurses to care for the needs of the Society.

We assume the Responsibility to provide our female students with continuing educational expertise in order  to update their professionalism as per the signs of the times, so as to prepare themselves to take up the challenges as skilled and specialized Nurses.

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide the female students with knowledge and skills toward promotion of health, prevention of illness, disabilities, early diagnosis, restoration of health and rehabilitation.
  • To prepare every student to be person-oriented and professionally efficient in the hospital and in the community set-ups.
  • To provide knowledge and skills for female student nurses for growing along with the technological  and scientific progress made in Health Care System.
  • To guide and tap the potentials and talents present in each student, so that a mature, self-affirming, responsible professional woman nurse with respect and service-mindedness may contribute towards a healthy society.
  • To instill a desire in the student to contribute to the building of the   Nation today by placing special services on meeting the health needs of the rural population.
  • To develop in the student personal, intellectual, professional, leadership qualities and decision-making abilities in various situations.
  • To create a passion in Mission for the care of the sick and an understanding of the principles and practice of Ethics and Codes of this profession.
  • To kindle / stimulate a desire in the female students for further study in the advanced fields of nursing  and expertise,  the knowledge and skill regularly.
